Vancouver 2010 Olympic Games

So the Para Olympic games are almost over and I've been home for almost 2 weeks already, I was in Vancouver working the Olympic games with Bell as a Network Surveillance technician. It was an amazing experience and I got to share that experience with my husband Chris who also worked the same position. It was a chance of a life time opportunuity and I enjoyed every minute of it. For those of you who have me on facebook I have some pictures posted there, but here is the link for those who want to take a look.

For the techie peeps here is a link to a site from one of my Olympic colleagues who I met while working in the Olympic technology operations centre. That shows all the cables and some of the Olympic venues.

Here is a picture of the Technology Operation centre team, a small group of the many people who helped deliver "flawless games" to the entire world. Without everyone in this picture 3 billion people wouldn't of been able to watch and cheer on our athletes from all corners of our country and the world.

This was and probably will be one of the most amazing experiences of my life, all the people, places and things that I got to do was incredible. From attending speed skating, figure skating, snowboading half-pipe (chris went to this event) and the dress rehersal of the opening ceremonies, to the amazing number of people who partied downtown in Vancouver. Canada and Bell showed the world what it means to be World Class and I am full of pride to know that I played a small part in a piece of Canadian history.

New Backyard

So we've been pretty busy lately ripping up the backyard, we figured since the dog kills the grass every year to just get rid of it. We created 2 flower beds that will be filled in soon and mulched, and an area with "pea" gravel.. for Cocoa and her needs, and now I don't have to look at patchy grass. I'll post more pics of everything soon, there are lots of changes going on, lots of busy weekends ahead of us.

This is a pic last spring when we were just starting the backyard, unfortunately I never took a pic before we started last weekend.

Here is the after pic last weekend, I have to top up the flower beds with soil, get the plants in and mulch it. I'm so much happier with the space now and no nasty grass, plus no more mowing...ha.

It's all still a work in progress, but I'm pretty happy with the results so far.. I'll try and post some updates soon.

Wedding Update

So here's an update on the wedding and plans. Things are going pretty good, I can relax finally now that everyone in our immediate familes are booked to go in February. We have a total of 17 booked now I think and I'm so excited for the wedding.. you have no idea. I've been busy ordering party favours online, I have my wedding dress (which I got in the US), Invitations have been out for a long time, and many other things are finished. I still have a few more things to do, but this whole process has been pretty great. Now that people are booked I can enjoy planning and relax!!! Most of the planning of the actual ceremony and reception takes place in DR so there isn't too much work for me to do here. My parents are hosting the reception in July next year in Newfoundland so that will be great as well, one big party in the backyard. Next week we are going ring shopping for the wedding bands, Chris's suit and a few other things. Before we know it, it will be February and we'll be married on the Beach. There is still time to book to join us!!!!!!!

Lychee

So I picked up a new softdrink from Superstore the other day, it's a new Lychee flavoured drink. It's awesome.. love it!!!! It's tastes almost the same as the fruit itself too. It would be pretty yummy mixed for a cocktail, give it a try if U happen to see it in store, it's a nice new fresh flavour for SUMMER!!!! Yes I said summer, if it ever decides to come and stay around. I think it will be a drink @ my next Party :)

Environmentally Friendly

So most of us want to be as kind to the Environment as we can, I've found an organic all natural fertilizer and pesticide all in one. It was on the advice of a friend who already uses it. It's from a company in Ontario. Check it out... a little expensive but it's concentrated so it will last a really long time. It's made with Pine-extract and Molasses!!!

It's Been a while!!!!

So it's been forever since I blogged anything. Between work, family visits, parties, gardening and everything else it's been a nightmare and I don't have any kids.... I can't even imagine. So Spring is here, but it's starting to feel a little more like summer each day. I've been busy in the garden in my spare time (which is rare), we are finishing the backyard this year. Putting in a vegetable/ flower garden which will be pretty cool when it's done. Right now in my office at home there are trays of seedlings just waiting for the garden to be finished.. tomatoes, cucumbers, herbs, zunchini and many seeds to be sowed... lettuce, radish, beans, carrots, beets, the list goes on and on. We are very excited to grow some of our veggies at home this year and know exactly where they came from :) Some pics to follow soon of spring flowers, and garden progress!!!! Here's one of my tulips that should bloom orange and yellow called "Juicy".

We're Getting Married!!!!!!

So Tuesday January 22nd on our trip to San Francisco Chris proposed!!!! I was so excited and totally surprised. It all started when he took me out for dinner at " Foreign Cinema" resturant, it was pretty cool the food was good and they played old black and white movies on the walls. After dinner we went to the top of the Intercontinental hotel to a bar called " Top of the Mark".. it's a live jazz bar at the very top of the hotel overlooking the entire city... beautiful view. I started to get a little curious when Chris ordered Champagne @ 22$ a glass!!! Then out the ring came.. I cried like a baby..lol, I think the crying may have stopped a couple of hours later. We are very excited and are looking forward to a long life together. The wedding will be sometime next year, probably in the spring (april-may) on a warm beach somewhere south. So that's about it... the other task at hand is trying to take a freaken picture of the ring, I'm having trbl with the glare.
